Reporting a Sexual Assault

This class format is based on use of a video about sexual assault issues of college students. The video is called "Our Stories" and is currently available from the Affirmative Action office. Video takes about 28 minutes and is geared to college students, particularly first year students.

What did you already know about sexual assault?

 

Are the reported facts on rape surprising to you? (1 in 6 college women/1

in 4, 78% by acquaintance, 22% by stranger)

 

What factors lead to college women being the most "at risk" population for

experiencing rape?

 

Did this video dispel any of your biases about rape? Why or why not?

 

How is shame a barrier for survivors?

 

What would you say to a friend who told you he/she was raped?

 

How did the comparison of the drunk driver and rape? (drunk driver hits and

kills a drunk jay-walker) affect your attitude about sexual assault and

rape?

 

How does it feel to observe or leave a risky situation?

 

What did you learn from these stories about protecting a friend or yourself from being raped or sexually assaulted?

 

What did you like and what did you dislike about the video?

 

How can the WSU community address the shame issue surrounding the survivor of rape?
