Reporting a Sexual Assault

 RESPONDING TO SEXUAL ASSAULT

 

SEXUAL ASSAULT: Any nonconsensual sexual activity including:

  • Unwanted touching or exposure
  • Rape
  • Acquaintance rape

REPORTING SEXUAL ASSAULT

Importance of reporting incidents of sexual assault:

  • Contributes to statistics that give a clear picture of what is happening on campus;
  • Contributes to creating a safer campus environment;

People with significant responsibility for students and campus activities are required to report a sexual assault. These people include:

  • President, Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors and other administrators;
  • Program supervisors
  • Department Chairs
  • Coaches, assistant coaches and athletic trainers
  • Nurses
  • Resident assistants
  • Security guards

How to report:

  • Reports can be anonymous; respect the wishes of the sexual assault survivor.
  • In order for statistics to be counted, you must include the basic elements of what took place including:
    • Use of force; type of force used.
    • Circumstances of the assault including involvement of drugs, alcohol or Rohypnal
    • Location of the assault
    • Date and time of the assault
