Global Studies Field Experience in Ecuador (GS 350) is a travel study course that takes place in Cotacachi County in northwest Imbabura, Ecuador, an area notable for several reasons. It encompasses altitudinal, biological, and cultural diversity, and brings together global interests and competing discourses. In particular, creative initiatives taken in Intag demonstrate how local residents conceive environmental rights as linked to gender and sustainable alternatives. This course will explore ways local events are linked to global processes and ways natives are implementing "development with identity" on their own terms, by using intercultural strategies, local and hybrid knowledge sets, and local governance.
Pre-departure meetings will be held October 14th, November 18th, and December 2nd, 2013.
Travel Dates will be December 30th, 2013-January 9th, 2014.
