John Vivian, Mass Communication, has had his book The Media of Mass Communication commissioned for a Chinese edition by textbook publisher Pearson Education Asia. The translation will be used in the People's Republic of China beginning probably in 2006. The book is a widely used Mass Communication survey text at colleges in the United States, where it's in its seventh edition, and in Canada, where in its third edition.
James Hoch, Music, is having his composition, Trio for flute, clarinet and piano, op. 6 performed as part of a benefit concert in Dusseldorf, Germany. The Melanchthon-Ensemble performing the work is comprised of Christoph Bruckmann, flute; Jong Csu Choi, clarinet; and Ulrich Leykam, piano. All the proceeds from the concert are being donated to the disaster relief in Southeast Asia. The concert is being performed at the Melanchthon church in Dusseldorf.

Mary Gander, Professor and Chair Business Administration, and Harry Gardiner, has had their Developmental Psychology textbook translated in Turkish and published in Turkey
Their text has been sited by a number of Turkish Psychology scholars over the past decade.
The book's Turkish title is Cocuk ve Ergen Gelisimi; it is translated by Dr. Bekir Onur and published by Imge Kitabevi: Ankara, Turkey, 2004.

Judy Routhe, Director of Media Services, published an article this year in the nationally recognized College and University Media Review publication.
The College and University Media Review publication, which concentrates on media practices, trends and research, is published by The Consortium of College and University Media Centers (CCUMC), an organization whose mission is to promote a stimulating learning environment by helping to move technology into the classrooms.
The CCUMC, founded in 1988, has more than 500 members representing all sizes of higher education institutions, such as Winona State. Routhe, a member of CCUMC, described in her article the technological advancements at Winona State, such as the new $30 million Science Laboratory Center and the leading dual platform laptop service program.
WSU's media services department has been in existence for more than 40 years, and is responsible for overseeing the technology and media services provided at the university.
Dan Rand, Mathematics and Statistics, has been named a Fellow of the American Society for Quality. He was nominated for this award by the La Crosse/Winona Section of ASQ, for outstanding leadership in statistical methods education, in consulting on quality improvement methods and in ASQ section activities.
