Michael Delong, Biology, was invited to serve on a grant review panel for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Thursday, April 7 through Saturday, April 9, in Washington, DC.  The panel provided recommendations for proposals submitted to the EPA’s graduate fellowship program.

Michael Delong is also the director of the Large River Studies Center.

 

Cathy Jo Faruque, Social Work, received a grant from the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies to bring two visiting scholars from the University of Dhaka - Institute of Social Welfare and Research - Dhaka, Bangladesh to WSU.  The two scholars, Muhammad Samad and Atiqur Rahman will arrive on campus sometime this summer and remain until the end of October 2005.  

Muhammad Samad holds the position of full professor at the University of Dhaka Institute of Social Welfare and Research.  Dr. Samad has an impressive research background and has been extensively published.  Of noted interest is his work on the issues of rural women, underprivileged children, child labor and urban slum dwellers in Bangladesh. 

Atiqur Rahman has a long standing history with the University of Dhaka Institute of Social Welfare and Research. Atiqur Rahman has conducted a number of research projects and is extensively published. Of noted interest is his research work in elderly, family planning, health and welfare in Bangladesh.

Drs. Samad and Rahman will be conducting comparative research on social welfare in the U.S. and Bangladesh, teaching an eight week intensive course in the fall semester on Globalization and Social Welfare, and be available for guest lectures.
