WSU Chamber Winds Present Recital
The WSU Chamber Winds is presenting a recital on Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.

The admission charge is $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.

The WSU Chamber Winds, established in the fall semester of 2004, is the newest facet of the Winona State University band program. Comprised of ten student musicians under the direction of Donald Lovejoy, the WSU Chamber Winds functions as two standard wind quintets and as a combined ensemble. The Spring 2005 recital also includes a trio for oboe, English horn and bassoon.

The WSU Chamber Winds represents a cross-section of the Winona State campus. In addition to music majors, there are students from English, elementary education, pre-medicine and social work. These students are also active in such areas as women’s golf, crew, theatre, resident assistants and various campus club activities.

During Spring break of 2005, the WSU Chamber Winds traveled to central Minnesota high schools as part of a concert/clinic tour. Presenting seven performances, the ensemble made contact with approximately four hundred students in the fifth through twelfth grade.

The Great River Shakespeare Festival Tickets are Available at WSU
Winona State University is a proud partner with the Great River Shakespeare Festival (GRSF) and participates as one of the six organized street teams helping to publicize and sell tickets for the second season of this professional theatre group's performances.

Competitive ticket selling teams are organized to encourage increased ticket sales, which benefit Support Our Fine Arts (SOFA) with a $1 donation per ticket sold if at least 7,000 tickets are sold.

WSU has organized a ticket selling team, led by Tess Kruger, WSU VP of University Affairs. In the theme of Shakespearean times, WSU participants named its team "Team Buckingham."

Tickets can be purchased from WSU's Team Buckingham by contacting Tess Kruger via e-mail: tkruger@winona.edu. A Team Buckingham button is given to every person purchasing a ticket from the WSU street team.

The second season of GRSF is June 24-July 24, on the main stage of WSU's Performing Arts Center on campus, featuring the plays: Richard III and Much Ado About Nothing.

For more information on the five week schedule, or about the two plays being performed this season, visit www.GRSF.org.

WSU Offers Study Abroad Opportunities in China

Winona State University is offering a semester study abroad program at Hebei University of Technology, in Tianjin, China.

The program is intended for students interested in studying at Hebei University of Technology for a semester (14-15 weeks) or summer session (10 weeks). HUT is located in Tianjin, China’s third largest city and approximately 90 minutes from Beijing. HUT has over 25,000 highly qualified students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The program for Winona State students aims to introduce the students to the Chinese language, culture, society, international business and history. Alumni Society Sponsors Ireland Trip
The Winona State University Alumni Society is sponsoring a trip to Ireland Sept. 9-17, including four nights at Kilkenny and three nights at Killarney.

The $1699 per person trip includes round-trip transatlantic air transportation, seven nights first-class hotel accommodations, full Irish breakfast daily, transfers between the airport and hotels, deluxe motor coach transportation throughout the program with an experienced and knowledgeable Irish driver/guide, luggage handling and related tipping, and local government and hotel taxes, with optional excursions available.

Kim Dehlin Zeiher, WSU director of alumni relations, said traveling to the two Irish cities is an "exciting opportunity" for Winona State alumni, family and friends.

"Kilkenny is a city rich in historic ambience," said Zeiher, "where the past lingers in the city's narrow alleyways surrounded by picturesque medieval buildings. The town of Killarney will enchant," added Zeiher, "with the spectacular scenery of mystical lakes and mountains."

Space for the trip is limited and early sign up is encouraged.

"Because of the excellent price," said Zeiher, "and the popularity of the program, we encourage you to reserve space with Global Holidays as soon as possible."
