WSU's Leadership Institute for High School Students includes students from 46 different high schools in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa, and recently received the 2004 Creative Noncredit Program Award of Excellence for the Mid-America University Continuing Education Association.
Model Legislature, the first session for the Leadership Institute, directed by the Minnesota State Legislator Gene Pelowski, aims to further students' leadership skills through the institute's outdoor teambuilding and challenge activities, while also increasing their knowledge of legislation processes.
Model Legislature costs $499, which includes room, meals, a laptop computer to use, materials and activities.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens curriculum, which develops students' personal and interpersonal leadership skills, is the focus behind the interactive High School Leadership Program offered July 10-15. The latest addition to the Leadership Institute program, the Middle School Leadership program for the seventh and eighth grades, also enhances self-confidence and personal and interpersonal leadership skills through the development of their listening and verbal communication skills. A $100 scholarship may be available based on student's school and community activities. Scholarship applications can be downloaded at www.winona.edu/aceed/leadership, or can be requested when registering.

| Recital Features WSU Chamber Winds |
The WSU Chamber Winds recital is scheduled for Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.
The admission charge is $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.
The WSU Chamber Winds, established in the fall semester of 2004, is the newest facet of the Winona State University band program. Comprised of ten student musicians under the direction of Donald Lovejoy, the WSU Chamber Winds functions as two standard wind quintets and as a combined ensemble. The Spring 2005 recital also includes a trio for oboe, English horn and bassoon.
The WSU Chamber Winds represents a cross-section of the Winona State campus. In addition to music majors, there are students from English, elementary education, pre-medicine and social work. These students are also active in such areas as women’s golf, crew, theatre, resident assistants and various campus club activities.
During Spring break of 2005, the WSU Chamber Winds traveled to central Minnesota high schools as part of a concert/clinic tour. Presenting seven performances, the ensemble made contact with approximately four hundred students in the fifth through twelfth grade.
