Greek Council Sells "College" T-Shirts

Winona State University's Greek Council will be selling 'College' T-Shirts as a fundraiser until Thanksgiving break in the lower hyphen. Selling dates and times are: Nov. 17-19, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Nov. 22-23, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. 

 

Hmong Awareness Dinner

The Winona State University Hmong Student Club presents Hmong Awareness Night on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 5-8 p.m., in the WSU East Cafeteria of Kryzsko Commons. A formal Hmong dinner will be served and guest speaker ZongKhang Yang will speak. Yang is a Hmong human rights activist and protest organizer for the Hmong Emergency Crisis Task Force. This summer he led a group of 13 people on a walk for freedom from the twin cities to the White House in Washington, D.C.

Advance tickets, which are sold in the WSU Cultural Diversity Office, are $5 for adults and $3 for students and kids; tickets at the door cost $8 for adults and $5 for students and kids. A party with entertainment will take place after dinner. Without the purchase of a dinner ticket, admittance to the party is $5.  For more information, please contact Meng Yang at 763-442-1507.

 

Great American Smokeout Begins

SHAPE and Collegians Against Cancer student groups will observe Great American Smokeout with an information booth in the Smaug on Thursday, Nov 18. They will have quit smoking kits, ‘kiss me I don’t smoke’ stickers and pamphlets and posters. They will also be marking out the 25 feet no smoking boundaries in front of doors and moving the ash trays 25 feet away from doors.

 

Photograph Publishing Opportunity Available

WSU's American Marketing Association is putting together a 2005-06 calendar and is requesting photo submission from any students, faculty and staff interested in displaying their work.  The photos can vary in subject matter, and can be as weird or beautiful as the photographer desires.  Submissions must be printed only; no electronic submissions.  All work must be no larger than 8x10 and no smaller than 5x7; photos can be black and white or color. On the back of photos, put the photographer should include his or her name, title of photo and contact information. All submissions are due to the Mass Communications office, in Phelps 126, by December 6, at 2 p.m.

 

Delta Phi Epsilon Presents Speaker

On Nov. 19, 9-10 a.m., in the Student Union, Delta Phi Epsilon presents Christine Stoltman, RD and LD,  from Community Memorial Hospital, to speak about anorexia-nervousa and associated disorders. This is a philanthropy for Delta Phi Epsilon and a donation box will be available to all that attend.

 

 

Diaper Days Fundraiser for Women’s Resource Center

Kappa Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, in conjunction with the Women’s Resource Center of Winona, is holding a fundraiser, through the month of November, to help end domestic violence and sexual assault. Kappa Mu Chapter is asking for donations of disposable diapers in medium and large sizes. Donations can be brought to the Department of Nursing office in Stark Hall, Room 303.

 

Two Students Raise Money for Stroke Awareness

Two Winona State Students (Lora Bullert and Julia Fischer) have joined with the Train to End Stroke Program and the American Stroke Association to raise money for stroke awareness and research. Through the Train to End Stroke Program, Bullert and Fischer are working with others to train for a marathon in Phoenix, Ariz. In order for them to make it to Phoenix in January, they need to raise a total of $7,000. Culvers of Winona is working with the American Stroke Association by donating 10% of their sales on Monday, Nov. 22, from 5-8 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to stop by and help these students raise awareness in the community, and support the efforts of the Train to End Stroke program.
