e-Learning Presents: Options for Supporting Synchronous Collaboration Online

Any members of the WSU community interested in instant messaging, online videoconferencing, virtual meetings, electronic office hours or e-tutoring is invited to attend the e-Learning demonstration, "Options for Supporting Synchronous Collaboration Online," led by Jill Quandt (Student Support Services) and Ken Graetz (e-Learning).  The presentation is Friday, Dec. 10, from 3-4:30 p.m., in Stark 105 (Winona) and ST 108 (Rochester).  Jill Quandt will provide an overview of Student Services' WSU-Rochester Center e-Tutoring Pilot Project funded by the MnSCU Center for Teaching and Learning.  For more information, contact Ken Graetz, at kgraetz@winona.edu.

 

WSU Tau Conference Center Invites Community to Open House

Winona State University invites all Winona community members and businesses to the Tau Conference Center Open House Thursday, Dec. 9, from 2-7 p.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. followed by a few words from WSU President Darrell Krueger and Dr. Christine Barajas, associate vice president of academic affairs.

Visitors will be able to take a tour of the newly renovated facility and meet the staff who are responsible for scheduling and catering.  The Tau Center first opened in 1964 as a residence for the Franciscan Sisters of Rochester. In 1973, the space was opened as a retreat and conference center and provided a meeting place for people of all faiths and backgrounds.

In 2002, WSU purchased the building from the Franciscan Sisters and opened the building to more than 110 WSU students participating in the Residential College program. Shortly after, work began on renovating and updating the eight meeting spaces which are suitable for retreats, meetings, banquets, luncheons and conferences.  The Tau Center is located at 511 Hilbert St.

Holiday Poinsettias For Sale

The WSU American Marketing Association (AMA) is selling Holiday Poinsettias, in six inch pots, for $8.  AMA will deliver anywhere on campus.  For more information or to place an order, email AMA at amawsu@yahoo.com.  The money will be picked up Dec. 9-10.  Delivery of the poinsettias is Dec. 13-15. 

 

Honor Cords Available

Students graduating in the Fall 2004 Commencement Ceremony, who have earned honors, may pickup their honor cord in the Registrar's Office, Monday, between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday-Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

 

Upcoming Student Senate Events

The student representatives to the Presidential Search Committee will be holding a forum where interested students may give suggestions and opinions on what qualities they would like to see in the future President of Winona State University. Student representatives will be reading through applications and conducting interviews with finalists. Stop by Stark 105 (Winona), or ST 114 (Rochester), from 2-3:30 p.m. to participate.

Student Senate is also looking for students to assist with student advocacy in the Spring Semester.  The Senate is looking for an Administrative Office Assistant (AOA). The AOA is responsible for taking and distributing agendas and minutes and also serving office hours in the Student Senate Office. Applications are also available for MSUSA Cultural Diversity Representative and MSUSA Campus Representative. These positions act as liaisons with the statewide student association and work to advocate on behalf of the students of Winona State University.  Applications are due on Monday, Dec. 13, at 3:30 p.m.

Holiday Concert for the Hungry

Winona State University Chamber Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble presents the fourth annual Holiday Concert for the Hungry, on Dec. 12, at 2 p.m., on the WSU Performing Arts Center Main Stage.  A non-perishable food item is the admission to the concert, which will be collected at the door and donated to Winona Volunteer Services as part of Merchants Bank 10 Days of Giving.

"I view the concert as a way for my students to connect to the community," said Dr. Donald Lovejoy, WSU music professor.

 

Morris K. Udall Scholarships Offered

WSU students interested in fields related to conservation and the environment and Native American and Alaska Natives studying health care or tribal public policy are invited to seek nomination for the Morris K. Udall Scholarship.  In honor of Congressman Udall’s legacy in conservation, health policy and public service, the Morris K. Udall Foundation awards grants up to $5000 for tuition, fees, books and room and board for one academic year.  Students with any major may apply, but they must be juniors or seniors for the 2005-2006 academic year.  The scholarships are awarded competitively, based on the Foundation’s evaluation of student applications.  The application deadline is March 3, 2005.  Contact Dr. Darrell Downs in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, ddowns@winona.edu, for additional application materials or questions. 

 

WSU Bookstore Presents 10 Days of Giving Sale

The annual 10 Days of Giving sale is at the WSU Bookstore, Dec. 1-10, during normal store hours, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.  Individuals who bring in four non-perishable food items receive 20% off their entire purchase of WSU-logo clothing, gifts, gift books and giftware throughout the store. All food will be donated to the 10 Days of Giving Food Drive to benefit Winona Volunteer Services Food Shelf.
