Winona State's Library Offers New Services

Winona State University's Library offers two new services for students and faculty.

RefWorks, an online management system for bibliographic references, and Find it! At WSU, a system that helps users find full text articles, are the new services which were announced recently at the WSU Student Senate meeting.

Users will no longer have to question the rules for formatting their papers when using various writing styles. RefWorks is a system that manages references and citations and automatically formats the references for the bibliographies of research papers. The system will store the references for as long as the user is associated with Winona State, so that even sources students read in their first year can be recalled and cited in their final capstone work. Users will be able to select resources when they are searching and load them into their personal collection without manually typing them. When users need a bibliography for papers, they select which citations they want and the format style, and RefWorks will format the bibliography automatically.

The second service, Find It! at WSU, allows users to find the full text of library materials in most databases to which the library subscribes. If the user is in one database that only has a citation to an article, the user can click on the Find It! button and obtain the full text from another library database. This technology will speed library research and make it easier for users to utilize the library's variety of databases more fully.

The WSU Library will work in conjunction with the university's E-Learning Center to begin training students and faculty how to use the latest library search features. Open and arranged training sessions are immediately available for the RefWorks service. Training for Find It! will be incorporated into regular library instruction.
