Winona State University's chapter of the National Broadcasting Society (NBS) donated funds to a WSU alumni member.
NBS members were unable to make a trip to Austin, Minn., because of scheduling conflicts, but wanted to help with the flooding disaster that occurred in September 2004.
Shelly Krusko, an NBS alumni member, was affected by the flood and had severe damage to her house, which prompted NBS members to make a donation to Krusko to help with repair costs.
"I think it's great that our chapter is willing to donate our fundraising money to a previous NBS member in need instead of using it all for our conventions, " said Andrea Bowe, NBS public information officer. "It really shows a sense of character."
NBS members are currently planning another fundraiser that will help the victims of the tsunami.
