WSU Presents "Native American Educational Experiences: A Reading"

Winona State University presents "Native American Educational Experiences: A Reading" as part of the Athenaeum Event Series: Spring 2005 Wednesday, April 6, at 1 p.m., in the WSU Library Athenaeum. The presentation is led by Florestine Kiyukanpi Renville.

The Athenaeum is located on the south side of the second floor of the library.  It will seat approximately 60 people.

Renville has a bachelor's in journalism from South Dakota State University.  She is an enrolled member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota Tribe.  Renville also edits and publishes her own publications, Ikce Wicasta and The Common People's Journal, and is one of four co-authors of Shaping Survival: Essays by Four American Indian Tribal Women.  The book's authors recount their educational experiences in BIA schools, off-reservation public schools and Indian mission schools, and how those experiences shaped their views on individual, family and community survival. Renville will be reading from the book.
