WSU Hosts 2005 Earth Day Celebration

Winona State University hosts Winona's 2005 Earth Day Celebration Saturday, April 23, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., on the WSU campus.

The line-up for the Procession of Species Parade is at 10:30 a.m., outside of Maxwell Hall, on 8th and Johnson street. All other events take place in the WSU courtyard. In the event of bad weather, events will be moved indoors.

The Earth Day Celebration includes a student fair, outdoor recreational activities, guest speakers, kids events, environmental workshops, and a variety of food from local restaurants and shops. Musical guests perform throughout the celebration.

James Reidy, assistant professor of physical education and recreation, says he is always looking for ways to support community service.

"It's important for people to understand earth is like a mother and we need to honor her. It's a great opportunity to learn more about the gentle way of living with the earth, not just on it."

WSU students assist the Park and Recreation Department in pre-planning, marketing, running activities, and setting up the event. There are about 37 students involved and are typically recreation majors.
