WSU National Broadcasting Society Wins 8 Awards at National Convention

Winona State University's chapter of the National Broadcasting Society (NBS) wins eight awards at the national convention in Los Angeles held March 8-12.

The group won five student production awards in radio and television broadcasting, as well as script writing. The chapter's advisor, Professor Ajit Daniel, said three of the awards were first place and two were first runner-up.

"I am very proud to say that Winona State swept the script writing categories," said Daniel.

The NBS chapter also took home three first place performance awards. The awards included a first place Model Chapter Award. WSU received one of the six Model Chapter Awards given out to a membership of 300 chapters from across the country.

The organization's public information officer, Andrea Bowe, won a first place Public Information Office of the Year Award, and NBS Advisor Ajit Daniel won District Director of the Year.

Daniel said this is the second year in a row WSU's chapter of NBS took home first place awards in all three categories.

"This is a moment of great satisfaction for myself and WSU," said Daniel, "because we've proven once again that we are as good as anyone in the nation. We're a small program, but a good one."

NBS President Krista Koski agrees.

"There are a lot of really big name schools at the convention," said Koski. "To go against them and win is a really great feeling."
