In an ongoing effort to help rebuild tsunami affected areas, Winona State University and Chartwells, WSU’s catering service, recently sponsored an all-you-can-eat international luncheon, in the Jack Kane Dining Center, in Kryzsko Commons. The cost of the luncheon was $5.51 and Chartwells donated proceeds from all cash purchases.
Student chef, Chris Gakez, an international student from Bulgaria, helped Chartwells Chef Tod Alford prepare many of the luncheon’s dishes. Menu items included chicken curry, rhodopean moussaka, dahl, and other international cuisine. Chartwells student associate, Troy Fegre, donated music and DJ services for the event.
Alford thought the luncheon went well and the menu items were enjoyed by all those who participated.
“It was a successful start and we are pleased,” Alford said. “We really want to give to this effort. There are international students who work here whose lives were affected by the tsunami. We want to help, even in this small way.”
Alford said Chartwells will definitely sponsor a similar luncheon in the future.
“We really want to present more students as chefs,” Alford said. “Students dining at Chartwells are more interested when they see student chefs preparing these kinds of foods.”
