The results are in for Winona State University’s spring concert this year—rapper Akon.
Winona State’s entertainment agent, Event Resources Presents Inc., has been working with representatives for Akon for about a month and a half to approve the contract.
The agents were negotiating on details such as airfare and other travel costs.
When choosing an entertainer, Winona State’s University Programming Activities Committee, more commonly known as UPAC, had to narrow down a list of entertainers who were available during the spring and willing to perform at a college or university while looking at other factors including costs.
Akon was the frontrunner on the list, among country artists.
Tickets are expected to go on sale after spring break, sometime in mid-March.
Tickets will be offered to only students at a reduced price of $25 for one week and any tickets remaining will be offered to the general public for a higher cost.
“My guts are telling me that we are going to sell out to our students,” Reed said. “If you ask me, that’s ideal.”
Additional funding for the concert was provided by Student Senate, who “overwhelmingly approved” the money request.
Reed said that he has not heard any complaint or concern about Akon being the entertainer for this spring’s concert and believes that there will be high interest in the concert.
“What we’ve found from the UPAC survey last year was that students like everything,” Reed said.
The concert will be April 5 in the field house.
