Computer Requirements
PC or Mac?
| Many software applications used in online courses are either Web-based or come in both PC and Mac versions. As long as your computer meets the minimum hardware standards, you should be able to run the software required by most online courses. However, some courses require software designed exclusively for a Microsoft Windows or Mac operating system (OS). Consult the Course Detail information and talk your instructor if you have any questions or concerns. Please note the following: |

Newer Macs can run a copy of Windows alongside the native Mac OS using a tool called VMWare Fusion, allowing Mac users to access some Windows-only applications. Learn more... |

Apple Safari, typically pre-installed as the default Web browser on Mac computers, is not capable of handling many, highly interactive Web-based activities common to online learning (e.g., taking tests online). Mac users are encouraged to use Mozilla Firefox for their online course work. |

Going Mobile
In June, 2005, Current Analysis reported that laptops outsold desktops in the US for the first time. Our Winona campus has had a fully implemented laptop lease program since 2003.
