Dr. Rachel Haug Root

Rachel Haug RootA freelance flutist, orchestral musician and private instructor, Rachel E. Haug Root holds a DMA and MM in flute performance from The Ohio State University, where she studied with Katherine Borst Jones, and a BA from Luther College under the instruction of Dr. Carol Hester. Her doctoral research, "An Introduction to Twentieth-Century Flute Music by Norwegian Composers," seeks to broaden awareness of the available flute repertoire.

In addition to her responsibilities as Adjunct Flute Instructor at Winona State, Dr. Haug Root acts as Flute Gallery Manager for Schmitt Music and holds the position of Piccolo with the Mankato Symphony Orchestra. She regularly performs with the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra and has performed professionally with the Central Ohio Symphony and the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra, playing flute and piccolo. She is a winner of the Ohio State DMA concerto competition and recipient of the 2015 Graduate Achievement Award. Dr. Haug Root is featured on the Naxos recordings Network and Rest, and in the 2008 Emmy Award-winning production, Christmas at Luther. She has toured with ensembles throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.
