SUMMARY:Earth Talks: The Curse of the Dinosaur Mummy
DESCRIPTION:Join the Geoscience Department for a discussion as part of the Earth Talks Speaker Series. \n\n\n\nIn this talk\, “The Curse of the Dinosaur Mummy\,” WSU Geoscience Professor Dr. W. Lee Beatty will discuss the discovery of a dinosaur “mummy” by a team of Winona State alumni and students in 2024. \n\n\n\nThe remarkably preserved skin of the Edmontosaurus fossil offers rare insights into dinosaur biology and evolution. \n\n\n\nIn 2026\, the dinosaur mummy\, still in its sandstone block\, will arrive at its new home at Winona State\, where it will be carefully prepared\, studied\, and put on display for students\, researchers\, and the community to experience firsthand. \n\n\n\nDiscover how such extraordinary fossils help bring prehistoric life into sharper focus. \n\n\n\n Learn More about the Earth Talks Speaker Series\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n\nAbout Dr. W. Lee Beatty\n\n\n\nDr. W. Lee Beatty is a Professor and Chair of the Geoscience Department at Winona State University. \n\n\n\nHe earned bachelor’s degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Earth Science from Penn State University and a PhD in Geology from the University of Pittsburgh. After completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory\, he joined the faculty of Winona State in 2008. \n\n\n\nFor more than a decade\, his work has focused on dinosaur ecosystems. And since 2013\, he has led paleontology digs in North Dakota’s famous Hell Creek Formation\, helping to bring the world of the dinosaurs to life for hundreds of families\, fossil enthusiasts\, and undergraduate students. \n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\nContact
