DESCRIPTION:On Feb. 26\, join us for Dr. Talan Memmott’s presentation\, “Cripistemology and Creative Practice: Disability Aesthetics\, Digital Art\, and Generative AI.” \n\n\n\nDr. Memmott’s presentation will showcase “Introducing Lary”—an ongoing AI project that explores the re-invention of the self following life-changing cancer surgery and treatment. \n\n\n\nThis talk also profiles Dr. Memmott’s experience with a laryngeal cancer diagnosis and the medical interventions that follow. \n\n\n\nUsing a variety of AI platforms for video and image production as well as journal entries and medical reports as text prompts\, the resulting work is a set of distinctive media that range\, in Dr. Memmott’s words\, “from the mythic to the horrific; the historical to the speculative.” \n\n\n\nThis presentation is through the Consortium for Liberal Arts & Sciences Promotion (CLASP) series. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome to attend in person\, and there is a Zoom room available (no password required). \n\n\n\n Join Zoom Room\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\nContact

SUMMARY:Common Book Author Keynote
DESCRIPTION:On Oct. 17\, Winona State University welcomes “Why We Act” author Catherine Sanderson to campus through the Common Book. \n\n\n\nEntering the final days before the 2024 election\, along with news reports of bullying online and bystanders in all sorts of situations not acting\, Sanderson’s book proves to be especially timely. \n\n\n\nThe Harvard University Press blurb raises the critical question the book seeks to answer: “Why do so few of us intervene when we’re needed—and what would it take to make us step up?” \n\n\n\n Learn More about This Year’s Common Book\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\nContact
