It\u2019s an opportunity for active-learning classrooms, high-tech studios &amp; labs, and innovative spaces.<\/p>\n<p>This project improves WSU\u2019s educational experience while furthering our commitment to sustainability and affordability.<\/p>\n                    <\/div>\n                    \n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n    \n<div id=\"\" class=\"panel panel--relative panel--white\">\n    <div class=\"panel__container\">                <div class=\"panel__main\">\n            \n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Center for Interdisciplinary Collaboration, Engagement &amp; Learning (CICEL) project addresses the challenge of outdated facilities that no longer meet the needs of today\u2019s students and faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gildemeister and Watkins Halls have not experienced significant upgrades since their opening in 1964. Meanwhile the world has changed dramatically:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Teaching and learning styles have shifted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Technology is ever-present<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New industries have developed that require more innovative thinking and collaboration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"CICEL | Winona State University\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R45aa_jHsVk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; Industries<\/div>\n   <div class=\"feature-panel__description\">CICEL will co-locate the Art &amp; Design, Computer Science, and Mathematics &amp; Statistics departments in a collaborative, sustainable, and healthy environment.<\/div>\n   \n\n<p>This will encourage collaborative learning that brings students together from various programs, who bring different strengths and perspectives to solve complex problems and create innovative projects.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"feature-panel__media\">\n   <div class=\"feature-panel__image\">\n       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/10\/WSU_Students-Classroom-2023-02-09_105300-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Students work on their laptops during class.\">\n   <\/div>\n<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>As more and more students engage in project-based and experiential learning, they will also be working with community partners, resulting in a win for everyone. Students gain opportunities to apply concepts to real situations. Community partners benefit from outside perspectives and resources to help get new projects off the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CICEL will serve as the campus center for these academic partnerships with businesses and organizations. It will also host campus and community events designed to bring people together.<\/p>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n    \n<div id=\"\" class=\"panel panel--relative panel--purple\">\n    <div class=\"panel__container\">                <div class=\"panel__main\">\n            \n\n<div class=\"wsu-block feature-panel feature-panel--reverse\">\n    <div class=\"feature-panel__content\">\n        <div class=\"feature-panel__main\">\n   <div class=\"feature-panel__title h2\">Integrated Support Services<\/div>\n   <div class=\"feature-panel__description\">CICEL will create learning, work, and social spaces designed for equity and access. People from all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities will feel comfortable and welcome.\u00a0<\/div>\n   \n\n<p>The most recent knowledge of equity design will be used for this project to ensure accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"feature-panel__media\">\n   <div class=\"feature-panel__image\">\n       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/about\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/10\/WSU_Students-Classroom-2022-11-01_084806-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Students work together during class.\">\n   <\/div>\n<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To support our students, WSU\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/trio\/\">TRIO program<\/a>&nbsp;will be in the building to provide advising, tutoring, and career guidance for qualified students. By putting TRIO services among classrooms and labs, it will be easier for students to take advantage of the many resources available. With easier access to support such as tutoring, advising and career services, students will improve their academic success and have a better student experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Likewise, for faculty and staff, having easy access to support from TLT will encourage and improve the use of technology across teaching environments.<\/p>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n    \n<div id=\"\" class=\"panel panel--relative panel--white\">\n    <div class=\"panel__container\">                <div class=\"panel__main\">\n            \n\n<div class=\"wsu-block feature-panel\">\n    <div class=\"feature-panel__content\">\n        <div class=\"feature-panel__main\">\n   <div class=\"feature-panel__title h2\">Sustainability Commitment &amp; Cost-Savings<\/div>\n   <div class=\"feature-panel__description\">For many years, WSU has practiced sustainability across campus in our classrooms and residence halls.<\/div>\n   \n\n<p>In the CICEL project, WSU is&nbsp;doubling down on this commitment to sustainability.
