In this talk, “The Curse of the Dinosaur Mummy,” WSU Geoscience Professor Dr. W. Lee Beatty will discuss the discovery of a dinosaur \u201cmummy\u201d by a team of Winona State alumni and students in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remarkably preserved skin of the Edmontosaurus fossil offers rare insights into dinosaur biology and evolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2026, the dinosaur mummy, still in its sandstone block, will arrive at its new home at Winona State, where it will be carefully prepared, studied, and put on display for students, researchers, and the community to experience firsthand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Dr. W. Lee Beatty<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dr. W. Lee Beatty is a Professor and Chair of the Geoscience Department at Winona State University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He earned bachelor\u2019s degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Earth Science from Penn State University and a PhD in Geology from the University of Pittsburgh. After completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the U.S. Department of Energy\u2019s National Energy Technology Laboratory, he joined the faculty of Winona State in 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For more than a decade, his work has focused on dinosaur ecosystems. And since 2013, he has led paleontology digs in North Dakota\u2019s famous Hell Creek Formation, helping to bring the world of the dinosaurs to life for hundreds of families, fossil enthusiasts, and undergraduate students.<\/p>\n\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n
