Political Science graduates are well prepared for graduate study, law school or a career in government, business, or education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Political Science is the study of the theory and practice of politics, government, and administration. As an academic discipline it includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Public Law<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public Policy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Political Theory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public Administration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International Relations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foreign Policy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comparative Governments of Modern and Developing Nations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"civic-center\">Winona State Civic Center<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in Fall 2024, The Winona State Civic Center has been making significant strides in fostering civility, community dialogue, and ethical leadership. The Center has focused on creating opportunities for meaningful interactions between community members, local leaders, and students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re grateful for the ongoing support from the Winona community and our partners. Let\u2019s continue to work together to promote civility and ethical leadership in Southeast Minnesota and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recent Accomplishments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-block tabs\">\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-nav\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-1\">Civility Through Dialogue<\/button>\n<button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-2\">Community Outreach<\/button>\n<button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-3\">Internship Program<\/button>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-content\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Civility Through Dialogue<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>The Center is dedicated to fostering respectful and constructive discussions on social issues.<\/p>\n<p>Through a series of events called \u201cPromoting Civility Through Dialogue,\u201d we encourage open communication and aim to build a more united and understanding community.<\/p>\n<p>We hosted one forum for community leaders in December and another forum for local 7th and 8th grade students in January.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Community Outreach<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>The Center connected with public officials and employees of governments in Southeast Minnesota to establish partnerships and learn about the needs and interests of their communities.<\/p>\n<p>We partnered with SE MN Together&#8211; a group of current and former local government administrators and employees, educators, and leaders of nonprofit organizations who work together to strengthen regional connections and build local capacity to solve their communities\u2019 issues.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Internship Program<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>We launched an internship program involving students from various majors and skill sets. The program provides a way for students to gain experience in their chosen fields through event planning, marketing, social media campaigns, networking, and grant administration, all while fostering civic engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Meet our team of Civic Engagement Specialists:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nicholas Fryer: Political Science and Public Administration double-major, 2024-25 Newman Fellow representing Winona State University<\/li>\n<li>Afrini Hossain: Human Services Professional graduate program with a concentration in leadership education<\/li>\n<li>Samantha Krohn: Mass Communication major with a political science minor<\/li>\n<li>Ellie Speltz: Biology: Life Science Teaching major with a philosophy minor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Looking Ahead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of our commitment to broadening civic engagement, the Winona State Civic Center is excited to announce two forthcoming programs. The speaker series on civic engagement, civility, and public service will feature prominent local and national names who inspire and educate participants on the value of public service, collaboration, ethical leadership, and active participation in democracy.
