Students typically apply after their third semester to start the nursing major in their fifth semester.<\/p>\n<p>You must have a cumulative college GPA of at least 3.75 for Direct Admission, or at least 3.0 Holistic Admission.<\/p>\n<p>To apply, students must have completed 12 college credits post-high school graduation or have 12 in-progress college credits post-high school graduation. All 12 college credits post-high school graduation must be completed by nursing program admission start date.<\/p>\n<p>Applications are available from Aug. &#8211; Oct. 1 for spring admissions and from Nov. &#8211; Feb. 1 for fall admissions.<\/p>\n<p>Transfer students who met the pre-requisite course requirements by the fall or spring admission deadline date (Oct 1, Feb 1) can be considered for an extended Holistic admission application date. The extended date for Holistic application is Nov. 15 for spring admission and June 15 for fall admission.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"What_courses_are_required_before_applying_to_the_Nursing_major?\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"What_courses_are_required_before_applying_to_the_Nursing_major?\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            What courses are required before applying to the Nursing major?        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Students must complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/nursing-health-sciences\/undergraduate-nursing-department\/program-admission\/#prerequisites\">prerequisite courses<\/a>\u00a0to prepare for the upper division nursing major.<\/p>\n<p>There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/nursing-health-sciences\/undergraduate-nursing-department\/program-admission\/#additional-requirements\">additional requirements<\/a>\u00a0before beginning the required upper division nursing program course work.<\/p>\n<p>You should also complete university General Education requirements before beginning upper division nursing courses.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Can_AP,_PSEO,_CIS,_and_transfer_credits_count_toward_nursing_prerequisites?\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Can_AP,_PSEO,_CIS,_and_transfer_credits_count_toward_nursing_prerequisites?\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Can AP, PSEO, CIS, and transfer credits count toward nursing prerequisites?        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>AP, PSEO, CIS, and transfer credits can count toward nursing prerequisites or General Education Program requirements.<\/p>\n<p>You may be able to check course equivalencies at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.transferology.com\/school\/winona\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Transferology website<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All college credits earned must be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/admissions\/apply\/transfer-credits\/\">transferred to Winona State University<\/a>. Grades earned in all college level courses become part of the student\u2019s cumulative college GPA.<\/p>\n<p>AP credits are not graded and do not affect GPA.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"What_is_the_Direct_Admission_process?\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"What_is_the_Direct_Admission_process?\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            What is the Direct Admission process?        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Direct admission guarantees admission to the nursing major for students with exceptional ACT\/SAT scores who earn excellent college grades.<\/p>\n<p>Direct Admission does not mean that students start the nursing major right away. Candidates still need to take prerequisite courses to prepare for the nursing major.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/nursing-health-sciences\/undergraduate-nursing-department\/program-admission\/#direct-admission\">direct admission criteria<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Students cannot directly declare a Direct Admission (PNDA) major.\u00a0All students interested in the Pre-Licensure Nursing major should choose Nursing Candidate (Holistic) PNHA.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a qualifying ACT or SAT score, the Department of Nursing with reach out with an offer to sign the Direct Admission Agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Once students register for classes and sign the Direct Admission Agreement, their major code will be changed to Nursing Candidate (Direct) PNDA.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Can_I_still_qualify_for_Direct_Admission_if_I_have_PSEO,_CIS,_or_AP_credits?\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Can_I_still_qualify_for_Direct_Admission_if_I_have_PSEO,_CIS,_or_AP_credits?\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Can I still qualify for Direct Admission if I have PSEO, CIS, or AP credits?        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Your PSEO, CIS, or AP credits are completed while you are in high school, so you are still considered a new entering first year student. If you have an ACT score of 27 or higher or SAT score of 1280 or higher, you can qualify for Direct Admission status.<\/p>\n<p>Students who completed grade-bearing college credits while in high school and received a grade of W, D or F in a nursing prerequisite course may repeat the course prior to their first day of class as a new entering first semester student at Winona State without invalidating their eligibility for Direct Admission.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"What_is_the_Holistic_Admission_process?\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"What_is_the_Holistic_Admission_process?\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            What is the Holistic Admission process?        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/nursing-health-sciences\/undergraduate-nursing-department\/program-admission\/#holistic-admission\">Holistic Admission (PNHA) process<\/a>\u00a0is designed for students without direct admission status, transfer students, and WSU students who have changed their major to nursing.<\/p>\n<p>Students who meet eligibility requirements may apply no earlier than their first semester at WSU to begin the major in their second semester.<\/p>\n<p>Meeting minimum eligibility requirements for application does not guarantee admission through the Holistic Admission process.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"How_can_I_ask_for_a_reference_from_professors?\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"How_can_I_ask_for_a_reference_from_professors?\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            How can I ask for a reference from professors?        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Now is the time to get acquainted with your professors. Here are some possible strategies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be sure to introduce yourself<\/li>\n<li>Ask thoughtful questions in class about the material<\/li>\n<li>Participate in class discussions<\/li>\n<li>Go to your instructor\u2019s office hours<\/li>\n<li>Ask respectfully and politely<\/li>\n<li>Be prepared to explain the kinds of information that will be requested. Your reference will be asked to comment on your personal qualities.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t wait until the last minute<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"How_are_applications_to_the_Nursing_program_evaluated?\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"How_are_applications_to_the_Nursing_program_evaluated?\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            How are applications to the Nursing program evaluated?        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Applications are evaluated based on academic achievement, personal achievement, and the interview process. Be sure to submit your scores to WSU.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants who do not have an ACT or SAT score from a test taken within the last 5 years must complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atitesting.com\/teas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills<\/a> (ATI TEAS) as part of the application process. Holistic Admission program applications for Fall 2026 start will require a minimum ATI TEAS score of 58.7.<\/p>\n<p>You may take the ATI TEAS online or in-person, proctored by ATI, another institution, or PSI. Students are responsible for the cost of testing, and test fees are not refundable.<\/p>\n<p>You must arrange for an official test transcript to be sent to Winona State.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Community_Service_Hours\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Community_Service_Hours\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Community Service Hours        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>All undergraduate nursing candidates must complete at least 10 hours of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/nursing-health-sciences\/undergraduate-nursing-department\/program-admission\/#community-service\">volunteer service<\/a>\u00a0per fall and spring semester while a degree-seeking student at WSU.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer hours must be completed in the Winona and Rochester communities.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Will_all_Holistic_Admission_students_receive_an_interview?\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Will_all_Holistic_Admission_students_receive_an_interview?\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Will all Holistic Admission students receive an interview?        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>No. Holistic Admission applicants will qualify for the interview process based on their scores in the Academic Achievement and Personal Achievement criteria.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"What_if_I_apply_through_Holistic_Admission_and_am_not_admitted?\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"What_if_I_apply_through_Holistic_Admission_and_am_not_admitted?\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            What if I apply through Holistic Admission and am not admitted?        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>You may reapply the following semester. All 12 college credits post-high school graduation must be completed by nursing program admission start date.<\/p>\n<p>Transfer students intending to declare a pre-licensure nursing major must have a cumulative college GPA of at least 2.75 to be admitted to WSU. Students must achieve a cumulative college GPA of 3.0 to be eligible to apply to the nursing program.<\/p>\n<p>Transfer students who have been enrolled in a nursing program at another institution must request a letter from the academic head of the program stating that they are eligible for continuing in or readmission to that program. Asynchronous online courses are offered to meet each of the Goal Areas.<\/li>\n<li>The PDW requirement consists of 2 credits.
