These opportunities provide different options offered at your own pace.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CEU is designed as a measurement for life-long learning activities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Increasingly, CEUs are being accepted as evidence of educational attainment by employers, certification, and licensing agencies as well as professional organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Progress toward such goals is verified and documented by official record of the CEU earned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-block tabs\">\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-nav\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-1\">Definition<\/button>\n<button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-2\">Teaching Methods<\/button>\n<button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-3\">Verification Documents <\/button>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-content\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Definition<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is defined as participation in a learning experience, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a formally organized instructional activity<\/li>\n<li>responsible sponsorship<\/li>\n<li>capable direction<\/li>\n<li>qualified instruction<\/li>\n<li>one CEU is awarded for every ten contact hours of participation (1.0 CEU = 10 contact hours exclusive of breaks; 0.4 CEU = 4 contact hours)<\/li>\n<li>verification of participation (actual contact hours)<\/li>\n<li>course content which is responsive to learner needs<\/li>\n<li>evaluation of instructor and course by each participant rather than evaluation of the participant<\/li>\n<li>a transcript record maintained in perpetuity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The CEU is different from traditional academic credit but provides a standard measure of non-credit learning and is used for record keeping.<\/p>\n<p>It is not equal to academic degree credit nor can it be converted to academic credit.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Teaching Methods<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>CEU courses use various educational formats and media such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>workshops<\/li>\n<li>seminars<\/li>\n<li>symposiums<\/li>\n<li>conferences<\/li>\n<li>traditional face-to-face classes<\/li>\n<li>short courses<\/li>\n<li>teleconferences<\/li>\n<li>independent study<\/li>\n<li>in-house training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some CEU activities are taught by WSU faculty, some by community resource persons, and others by visiting experts.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Verification Documents <\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>A record of participation is maintained for all who earn CEUs at Winona State University.<\/p>\n<p>Verification of participation documentation will be provided on request by the Adult and Continuing Education Department.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/records-registration\/student-academic-records\/grades-transcripts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Request a transcripts<\/a>\u00a0by contacting the Registrar&#8217;s Office at 507.457.5030.<\/p>\n<p>You must state that a transcript of CEU activities is desired.<\/p>\n<p>There is a fee for transcripts for CEU activities.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating CEUs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any person with knowledge of the educational needs of a group or individuals may originate a CEU activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often, consultation between the client group and the Program Coordinator of the Adult and Continuing Education Department will initiate the creation of a CEU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other cases, faculty members who are aware of educational needs in the community may recommend a CEU activity to the Adult and Continuing Education Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CEU activities may be taught by any person qualified to meet the needs of a specific client group. For that reason, recommendations by the client group are encouraged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All CEU activities are self-supporting.
