Field education is one of the most impactful methods of teaching in the Social Work program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is also the signature opportunity for students to apply classroom knowledge in professional, real-world social service settings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Students complete their field education experiences at agencies throughout the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Undergraduate students participate in SOCW 475 Practicum, which occurs in the final semester of the Social Work program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prior to the Practicum semester, students work with faculty to secure an approved practicum placement that meets CSWE accreditation standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Practicum is a 480-hour block field education placement. Students typically participate four days a week, with one day each week reserved for Integrative Seminar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During their Practicum, students work closely with a Faculty Field Liaison and the agency Field Instructor to craft learning goals that allow the student to demonstrate the full range of generalist social work competencies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Integrative Seminar course taken concurrently serves to reinforce social work knowledge, skills, and values for ethical practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of Practicum, students complete a capstone project that allows the opportunity for developing applied research skills into their beginning social work practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
