{"id":15331,"date":"2025-09-28T15:02:45","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T20:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/?page_id=15331"},"modified":"2025-09-28T15:02:46","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T20:02:46","slug":"master-of-social-work-program-admission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/nursing-health-sciences\/department-graduate-social-work\/master-of-social-work-program-admission\/","title":{"rendered":"Master of Social Work Program Admission"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>You\u2019ll complete one application to apply to Winona State Graduate Studies and the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you were previously enrolled in graduate courses at WSU, you may be able to use the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/records-registration\/enroll\/\">re-enrollment process<\/a>&nbsp;to continue your degree program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plan ahead for MSW program costs by viewing the official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/financial-aid\/cost\/graduate-tuition\/\">graduate tuition and fees<\/a> breakdown. The Advanced Standing pathway costs approximately $32,000, whereas the Regular Standing pathway costs approximately $46,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By the time they begin this program, MSW applicants must have completed a bachelor\u2019s degree from an institution accredited by a recognized regional accrediting association.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must also have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>completed undergraduate coursework in the liberal arts addressing diverse cultures, social conditions, social issues, and human behavior from a socio-cultural, psychological, and biological perspective.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>personal values that align with professional social work values and ethics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>personal qualities needed to agency-based clinical social work practice with disadvantaged populations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a demonstrated and\/or well-reasoned commitment to the field of social work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their undergraduate education. If you are applying for \u201cAdvanced Standing\u201d status, you must:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>have a Bachelor\u2019s degree with a Social Work major from a CSWE-accredited program in 2013 or later.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have at least a 3.4 GPA from social work courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants with a lower GPA or who earned their degree prior to 2013 may be admitted on a provisional basis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-block tabs\">\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-nav\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-1\">Advanced Standing<\/button>\n<button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-2\">Regular Standing<\/button>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-content\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Advanced Standing<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>Advanced standing admission is for students with an undergraduate social work degree from a CSWE accredited program.<\/p>\n<p>Advanced standing students can complete the 42 credits and 600 hours of field practicum in as little as 1 year.<\/p>\n<p>The Advanced Standing Program begins in May.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Regular Standing<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>Regular standing admission is for students with a non-social work undergraduate degree. Regular standing students can complete the 60 credits and 1,000 hours of field practicum in as little as 2 years.<\/p>\n<p>Regular and advanced standing students can also choose to complete the program at a more modest pace.<\/p>\n<p>The Regular Standing Program begins in August.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Required Courses for Regular Standing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Admission to the program with regular standing requires competed coursework in several liberal arts areas. We require different information for Advanced Standing and Regular Standing, so make sure you select the best option based on your background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Questions?
