{"id":158,"date":"2025-11-19T08:47:05","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T14:47:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/live-wsu.pantheonsite.io\/academics\/?page_id=158"},"modified":"2025-11-19T08:47:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T14:47:06","slug":"funding-for-research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/research\/funding-for-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Funding for Research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"is-style-text-intro wp-block-paragraph\">Doing research isn\u2019t limited to certain disciplines\u2014it&#8217;s open to everyone at WSU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 2015, WSU\u2019s Grants &amp; Sponsored Projects Department has funded more than 300 projects in 13 departments for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>analyzing software<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>discovering new teaching techniques<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>composing new music<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>studying psychology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>understanding Ebola<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through Grants &amp; Sponsored Projects, students can make great scientific discoveries, psychological analyses, and explore other diverse opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                        <\/div>\n            \n<div class=\"feature-cta-grid\">\n                <div class=\"feature-cta-block feature-cta-block__33 feature-cta-color feature-cta-color--large feature-cta-color--bg-dollar feature-cta-color--bg-lower-right feature-cta-color--green wsu-block\">            <div class=\"feature-cta-color__stat\">$180K+<\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-cta-color__title\">awarded to student researchers<\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-cta-color__description\"><p>by Grants &amp; Sponsored Projects since 2015<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-cta-block feature-cta-block__33 feature-cta-color feature-cta-color--large feature-cta-color--bg-star feature-cta-color--bg-upper-right feature-cta-color--aqua wsu-block\">            <div class=\"feature-cta-color__stat\">54<\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-cta-color__title\">average number of projects accomplished each year <\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-cta-color__description\"><\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-cta-block feature-cta-block__33 feature-cta-color feature-cta-color--large feature-cta-color--bg-grad-cap feature-cta-color--bg-lower-right feature-cta-color--purple wsu-block\">            <div class=\"feature-cta-color__stat\">$583<\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-cta-color__title\">average amount awarded to student researchers<\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-cta-color__description\"><\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Student Grants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WSU provides financial assistance to support student research and creative projects as well as presentations at local, regional, and national conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may be eligible to apply for up to 3 different University-funded research or creative mentoring grants as an undergraduate at WSU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early-Year Research &amp; Creative Mentoring<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This grant option is for students who have earned no more than 50 credits at the time of application.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll work with WSU faculty or staff mentors on research or creative projects in a range of fields and disciplines.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll also learn skills in various aspects of research like:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Planning&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Basic principles&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Critical inquiry protocols&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tracking data&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reporting findings&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Presenting findings&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students receive $300 for participating. You&#8217;re expected to present your project at a cohort discussion during Research &amp; Creative Achievement Day.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Undergraduate Research &amp; Creative Projects Grant<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This grant option is for full-time undergraduate students who have earned 60 or more credits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may pursue this kind of project at the same time as your capstone or other culminating project for your academic program.
