Some scholarships may be due more than a year before you will go abroad, depending on the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally, there are more (and larger) scholarships for longer programs and for students traveling to less-common destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-block accordion\">\n        <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Scholarship_Opportunities_List\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Scholarship_Opportunities_List\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Scholarship Opportunities List        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>The WSU Study Away team curates the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Study-Abroad-Scholarship-Opportunities-List.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scholarship Opportunities List<\/a> (PDF), which contains more than 30 scholarships for students who want to study away.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a good place to get started but be sure to check with the sponsoring organizations for the most up-to-date information.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Scholarship_Search_Engines\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Scholarship_Search_Engines\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Scholarship Search Engines        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goabroad.com\/scholarships-abroad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Go Abroad<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/umabroad.umn.edu\/funding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UM Learning Abroad Center Scholarship Search<\/a> are 2 search engines that gather scholarships for study abroad experiences.<\/p>\n<p>As you research outside scholarships, be careful for <a href=\"https:\/\/finaid.org\/scholarships\/scams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scams<\/a>. Always investigate the sponsoring organization and never pay an application fee.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"WSU_Foundation_Scholarships\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"WSU_Foundation_Scholarships\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            WSU Foundation Scholarships        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>The WSU Foundation awards over $1 million in scholarships each year, and almost every scholarship can be used for a study away program.<\/p>\n<p>There are two scholarships specifically for supporting students to study abroad.<\/p>\n<p>Explore <a href=\"https:\/\/winona.academicworks.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WSU Foundation Scholarships<\/a>.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<p>You may have also heard of famous scholarships like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rotary.org\/en\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rotary.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rotary<\/a> or Fulbright. Although these are wonderful awards, they are not for traditional undergraduate study abroad experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/fulbright-program\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"189\">Fulbright Program <\/a>awards are for research, teaching, or studying overseas after you\u2019ve completed your undergraduate degree. Overall, I felt less stressed about finances before going and while I was abroad.<\/div>\n<div class=\"testimonial__details\"><p>Queen\u2019s University Belfast Study Abroad Program<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Financial Aid<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Federal and state financial aid may be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/financial-aid\/apply\/study-abroad\/\">applied to your study away program<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you qualify for grants or federal loans, financial aid can be a reasonable and helpful resource. It never hurts to apply, as you can always turn money down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you plan to use your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/financial-aid\/apply\/study-abroad\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/financial-aid\/apply\/study-abroad\/\">financial aid award to study abroad<\/a>, you should schedule an appointment with a WSU financial aid advisor. If you are awarded any study abroad scholarships, they will help you understand how that impacts the rest of your aid package.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tuition Waiver<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can apply the tuition waiver benefit only to faculty-led programs.
