I will bike, walk, and train hop myself ragged exploring whatever city I am in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along with teaching, I enjoy puzzling, swimming, and critiquing pop culture. I recently took up watercolor as a stress reliever, but now I find that I stress over making the perfect birthday card or figuring out what to paint next. I tend to dance at the drop of a beat, which is great for Zumba classes but not so much for grocery shopping.<\/p>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Professional Statement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a rhetorical and critical cultural scholar, I explore the intersections of visual rhetoric (and media studies), environmental communication, public advocacy and social movement communication, civic engagement, and public memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My investment in community building and local environmental advocacy enables me to connect my research to local organizations and policy development and to bring these real-world applications to the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite being from a land-locked state, I have published essays on marine animal advocacy in \u201cQuarterly Journal of Speech\u201d and \u201cEnvironmental Communication.\u201d I co-edited a special issue of \u201cRhetoric Society Quarterly,\u201d which featured essays composing a \u201cRhetorical Bestiary.\u201d I branched out of animal advocacy with an article on visual rhetoric and Confederate monuments in the \u201cHoward Journal of Communications.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I continue to embrace the upbeat topic of climate change and biodiversity loss as a rhetorical project, believing that we need to focus on enhancing environmental communication.<\/p>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Courses Taught<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CMST 192: Introduction to Effective Communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CMST 289: Gender &amp;
