You will assemble a portfolio in one of the last courses before student teaching to show that you\u2019ve gained the necessary skills and experience during your studies at WSU.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<div GPA and earn a grade of \u201cC\u201d or better in all Professional Education Sequence courses including: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>all EDFD courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HERS 204<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SPED 300<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>EDUC 429 (for K-12 and 5-12 majors)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>EDFD 449 (for K-12 and 5-12 majors)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students in Rochester-based programs should talk to their academic advisors about which courses in their program are part of the Professional Education Sequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you wish to appeal a course grade, you would do so through the Grade Appeal Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All students must also satisfactorily complete the student teaching experience and demonstrate proficiency in all competencies as outlined in section two of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Teacher-Education-Student-Handbook.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Professional Education Unit Handbook<\/a> (PDF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students must abide by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/policies-student-conduct\/student-academic-integrity-policy\/\" data-type=\"link\" control, but the student was passing the course in all other aspects.<\/p>\n<p>You will not be allowed to student teach if you have any outstanding incompletes.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n candidate will have a well-established record of being involved, such as participating in WSU&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/clubs\/student-clubs\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/clubs\/student-clubs\/\">student clubs<\/a>&nbsp;and local <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/he.cecollaboratory.com\/winonastate\" target=\"_blank\">volunteer opportunities<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"feature-panel__media\">\n   <div class=\"feature-panel__image\">\n       <img decoding=\"async\" You might consider going on a short-term <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/faculty-led\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"186\">faculty-led travel program<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/semester-abroad\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"183\">semester-long study abroad<\/a> trip to experience diverse cultures first hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be proactive in this area and take advantage of every opportunity which will allow you to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n    \n<div id=\"\" class=\"panel panel--relative panel--purple\">\n    <div class=\"panel__container\">                    <div class=\"panel__header\">\n                <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                                    <div id= \"academic-support-&amp;-student-assistance\" class=\"h2\">Academic Support &amp; Student Assistance<\/div>\n                                                    <div class=\"panel__description\">\n                        <p>If you are struggling in the teacher education program, our faculty will work to get you back on track so that you can achieve your goals. <\/p>\n<p>You can always reach out to your advisor to ask for support.<\/p>\n                    <\/div>\n                                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n                <div class=\"panel__main\">\n            \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faculty may also identify students who need support in academic, personal, or professional areas. This could be for reasons such as if a student:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Receives a grade of less than \u201cC\u201d in any Professional Education Sequence courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fails to maintain at least a 2.75 GPA in their major<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fails to meet disposition guidelines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this case, there will be a review meeting held with the student, the student\u2019s advisor, the faculty member involved, and the program leader to address the areas of concern and determine an assistance plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assistance plans often include using resources from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/warrior-success-center\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/warrior-success-center\/\">Warrior Success Center<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/wellness\/counseling-services\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/wellness\/counseling-services\/\">Counseling Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a student withdraws from the program, they must meet with their program leader, Director of Center for Student Success, and Dean of College of Education to return to the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Student assistance plans and academic warning letters are filed within the student&#8217;s teacher education record.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-block tabs\">\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-nav\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-1\">Continuation in Teacher Education<\/button>\n<button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-2\">Dismissal from Teacher Education<\/button>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-content\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Continuation in Teacher Education<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>Students can continue in their teacher education program if they meet the conditions outlined in their student assistance plan.<\/p>\n<p>Students must maintain at least a 2.75 GPA in their major to be placed in student teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Students with outstanding incompletes are not allowed to student teach.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Dismissal from Teacher rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Code of Ethics for Teachers<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Commit a breach of ethical responsibilities as stated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/policies-student-conduct\/student-conduct-code\/\">WSU Student Code of Conduct<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Fail to meet disposition guidelines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A student dismissed for a violation will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>not be allowed to continue in any field experience for that semester<\/li>\n<li>be dropped from the Teacher Education Program at the end of the success in the job search and are highly regarded in districts throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and beyond. <\/div>\n   \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a>&nbsp;is a valuable resource to learn about the job outlook and salary for <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/education-training-and-library\/high-school-teachers.htm\" target=\"_blank\">high school teachers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/education-training-and-library\/kindergarten-and-elementary-school-teachers.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">elementary teachers<\/a>&nbsp;in the are most in need of teachers to hire because there are fewer job applicants.<\/p>\n<p>The WSU licensure areas in the highest demand in Minnesota are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Biology<\/li>\n<li>Business Education<\/li>\n<li>Chemistry<\/li>\n<li>Early Childhood Education<\/li>\n<li>Earth Science<\/li>\n<li>English as a Second Language (ESL)<\/li>\n<li>Mathematics<\/li>\n<li>Physics<\/li>\n<li>Spanish<\/li>\n<li>Special Education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you go for one of these licenses, you could apply for the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/types\/grants\/teach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TEACH grant<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/manage-loans\/forgiveness-cancellation\/teacher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">federal loan forgiveness program<\/a> to help pay for college.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Build Marketable Skills<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>If you are pursuing licensure
