{"id":8706,"date":"2023-09-11T10:46:52","date_gmt":"2023-09-11T15:46:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/?page_id=8706"},"modified":"2023-10-04T13:51:15","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T18:51:15","slug":"foundations-of-education","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/education\/education-studies-department\/foundations-of-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Foundations of Education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Foundations of Education (EDFD) undergraduate courses\u00a0focus on\u00a0the psychological, pedagogical, historical, sociological, and philosophical groundwork of education.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These courses make up the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Professional-Education-Sequence-Courses.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Professional-Education-Sequence-Courses.pdf\">Professional Education Sequence<\/a>\u00a0(PDF).\u00a0This course sequence provides experiences that help education majors from all education licensure programs on the Winona campus understand:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the role and purpose of public education in a democratic society&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>contemporary theories of human learning and development, and their implications for classroom instruction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the construction and interpretation of teacher-generated and standardized assessments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how to develop pedagogical practices that effectively meet the needs of diverse student populations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>EDFD courses help students understand teachers, the lives of their students, and the aims of the schools where they interact.
