{"id":9495,"date":"2023-10-10T15:51:45","date_gmt":"2023-10-10T20:51:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/?page_id=9495"},"modified":"2023-11-28T13:33:57","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T19:33:57","slug":"programs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/liberal-arts\/art-design-department\/programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Art &amp; Design Programs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Art and Design department offers 4 majors and 2 minors, focusing on a variety of topics from history, teaching, to digital design.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Majors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Art Teaching<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/liberal-arts\/art-design-department\/programs\/art-teaching\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"9501\">Art Teaching major<\/a>\u00a0prepares graduates for Minnesota certification in art (K-12).\u00a0This program will help you develop your own artistic voice, while teaching you how to educate others the fundamentals of art.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Art and Design department partners with the College of Education for this major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Graphic Design<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/liberal-arts\/art-design-department\/programs\/graphic-design\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"9504\">Graphic Design<\/a>\u00a0is a traditional design major relying on strong foundations in design theory, studio arts and history, combined with contemporary multi-disciplinary practices like computer science, communication, and marketing.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I-Design<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/liberal-arts\/art-design-department\/programs\/i-design\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"9506\">I-Design major<\/a>\u00a0provides students with a modern, adaptive design education.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the Design Thinking approach, the I\u2013Design major is developed as a blended design program that is customized for the WSU environment. This program will give you the flexibility to become a leader in several design-related industries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Studio Art<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/liberal-arts\/art-design-department\/programs\/studio-art\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"9511\">Studio Art major<\/a>\u00a0offers both analysis and training in the fine arts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This training is done in the context of a broadly based Liberal Arts education, making sure you are a well-rounded student ready to become a visual artist or creative industry professional in today\u2019s world of arts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Minors<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<div class=\"wsu-block tabs\">\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-nav\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-1\">History of Art<\/button>\n<button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-2\">Studio Art<\/button>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-content\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">History of Art<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>History of Art is the study of artistic artifacts and the cultures they come from. This includes everything from cave paintings to today&#8217;s electronic and digital arts.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/w3.winona.edu\/DataServices\/WSUCatalog\/2907\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">History of Art Minor<\/a>\u00a0introduces you to the fascinating world of art in the past and present. The program will train you to appreciate, understand and analyze pieces of art.<\/p>\n<p>History of Art offers a pathway to careers in museums, art galleries, the art market, and arts administration.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Studio Art<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/w3.winona.edu\/DataServices\/WSUCatalog\/2881\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Studio Art Minor<\/a> allows you to develop your artistic skills.
