{"id":9506,"date":"2023-10-10T16:26:28","date_gmt":"2023-10-10T21:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/?page_id=9506"},"modified":"2023-11-28T13:38:39","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T19:38:39","slug":"i-design","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/liberal-arts\/art-design-department\/programs\/i-design\/","title":{"rendered":"I-Design Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With WSU&#8217;s&nbsp;I-Design major, you will develop your creative identity through problem-solving skills, new media and technology, group effort and global cultural experience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the Design Thinking approach, the I-Design major offers an adaptive design education that is customized for the WSU environment and blends several areas of study.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The major requires &#8220;international exposure&#8221; that may be fulfilled as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/semester-abroad\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/semester-abroad\/\">semester-long&nbsp;study abroad<\/a>&nbsp;or a multi-week-long summer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/faculty-led\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/faculty-led\/\">faculty-led&nbsp;travel experience<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the creative field continues to grow, the program will allow you to become a leader in multiple design-related industries and your community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Begin Your I-Design Journey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I-Design builds on a foundation of studio and digital art. The next level contains basic graphic design theory and design history studies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will use classic studio skills along with modern tools, such as professional design software, to gain and improve skills.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once accepted into the program as a sophomore, you will start learning advanced modern design theory and practices.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Coursework &amp; Curriculum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students in the&nbsp;I-Design major&nbsp;expand their knowledge and skills through their <a href=\"https:\/\/w3.winona.edu\/DataServices\/WSUCatalog\/3118\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/w3.winona.edu\/DataServices\/WSUCatalog\/3118\">coursework<\/a>, covering:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>design history<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>critical theory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>new approaches<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>engaging techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>By the end of your undergraduate education, you will build a professional portfolio to reflect your learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inquiry, research, group effort, analysis and assessment are core components of the design curriculum. This increases academic engagement and fosters a deeper insight through the development of a hands-on, minds-on and \u2018research-based disposition\u2019 toward teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow to Learn\u201d vs. \u201cWhat to Learn\u201d inquiry honors the complex, linked nature of knowledge construction. It strives to provide chances for both instructors and students to build, test and reflect together on their learning.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"International_Exposure\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"International_Exposure\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            International Exposure        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Students in the program must complete a one-credit independent study personal experience. The study needs to be substantial and directly immerse the student in a new culture.<\/p>\n<p>Examples include many of the study abroad\/travel study programs. Other examples include domestic multi-day involvement in the design, culture, art, history, architecture, traditions and lifestyle of a new culture or social group.
