Ditlev Larsen is a native of Denmark and has lived in the U.S. and Minnesota since 1993. His research interests focus on a variety of issues in applied linguistics\/TESOL, particularly cross-cultural\/second language composition and sociolinguistics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was the 2001 recipient of the Henry Borow Award for Outstanding Dissertation Research at the University of Minnesota for his doctorate dissertation, Freshman College Students Acquiring Academic Writing: An Examination of Basic Writers and ESL Writers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His publications include articles\/chapters in Theoretical Perspectives on Developmental Education, Pragmatics and Language Learning and Second Language Writing News Journal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Professor Larsen also has served in various leadership positions in the Minnesota TESOL organization (co-chair of Teacher Education Committee) and the international TESOL organization (Second Language Writing Interest Section). He is a regular at the annual TESOL Convention where he has presented numerous papers and research projects since 2003. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before joining Winona State in 2003, he taught a variety of courses in ESL, composition, linguistics and literature at St. Cloud State University, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, University of Minnesota and University of Wisconsin\u2014River Falls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A former elite middle distance runner, Professor Larsen still enjoys racing \u201csomewhat\u201d competitively and has previously served as distance running coach at the University of Minnesota and for USA Track and Field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other interests include studying the life and music of \u201cthe most influential native Minnesotan of all time,\u201d Bob Dylan (he\u2019s attended more than 30 Dylan concerts). He lives in Winona with his wife, Susan, and sons Hans and Teis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
