{"id":9974,"date":"2024-07-23T13:07:14","date_gmt":"2024-07-23T18:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/?page_id=9974"},"modified":"2024-07-23T13:07:15","modified_gmt":"2024-07-23T18:07:15","slug":"student-resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/colleges\/liberal-arts\/global-studies-world-languages-department\/student-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Studies &amp; World Languages Student Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Student Clubs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WSU has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/clubs\/student-clubs\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/clubs\/student-clubs\/\">variety of student clubs<\/a>&nbsp;that focus on world languages and cultures.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Internships<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Internships put theory into practice and add to students\u2019 resumes and future employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two internship courses available for students wanting to earn credits while interning:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>GS 450 is meant for those who want a passing grade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GS 451 can be taken for a letter grade and involves more requirements&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All internships require serious student responsibilities. These are specified in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/GSWL-Internship-Contract-2018.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/GSWL-Internship-Contract-2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">internship&nbsp;contract<\/a> (PDF)&nbsp;that must be signed by the student, onsite internship supervisor, and the instructor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some places where Global Studies and World Languages students regularly intern at are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Intercultural Mutual Assistance Association (IMAA)&nbsp;in Rochester, MN<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shanghai Industries Group (SIG)&nbsp;in Shanghai, China \u2013 only available to students learning Chinese<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Japan America Society of Minnesota (JASM)&nbsp;\u2013 only available during summer months for students who are learning Japanese<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students can arrange their own internships with organizations in the US or abroad and the program faculty and director must approve them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Scholarships<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/financial-aid\/paying-for-college\/scholarships\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/financial-aid\/paying-for-college\/scholarships\/\">general scholarships<\/a> at WSU, students in the Global Studies and World Languages programs can apply for many scholarships from the WSU Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/winona.academicworks.com\/\" class=\"wsu-link cta-button cta-button--external cta-button--lime cta-button-- cta-button--light\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\" >\n    <span>Apply for WSU Foundation Scholarships <\/span>\n<\/a>\n\n<div class=\"feature-grid feature-grid--light\">\n                <div class=\"feature-block feature-block--33 wsu-block\">            <div class=\"feature-block__content\">\n                <div class=\"feature-block__title\">Mary Graham Scholarship for Study Abroad <\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-block__description\"><p>Email Dr. Vanessa Fernandez-Greene at vfernandezgreen@winona.edu for more information. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-block feature-block--33 wsu-block\">            <div class=\"feature-block__content\">\n                <div class=\"feature-block__title\">SOL Scholarship for Study Abroad <\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-block__description\"><p>Email Dr. Vanessa Fernandez-Greene at vfernandezgreen@winona.edu for more information. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-block feature-block--33 wsu-block\">            <div class=\"feature-block__content\">\n                <div class=\"feature-block__title\">Global Studies Study Abroad Scholarship<\/div>\n                <div class=\"feature-block__description\"><p>Email  Dr. Yogesh Grover at ygrover@winona.edu for information. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fulbright Program Grants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re looking for funding to go overseas after graduation, consider applying for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/fulbright-program\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/fulbright-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fulbright grant<\/a>. Fulbright grants are available for<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Study (just coursework, or even a master\u2019s or PhD) or research (can be independent or guided).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>English teaching (at varying levels from children to adults).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are more than 140 countries that participate in the Fulbright student grant competition, and each country chooses which kinds of grants they\u2019ll offer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Language requirements vary, but you don\u2019t necessarily need to speak the language of the country to which you\u2019re applying. With the English Teaching grants, you don\u2019t necessarily need to have teaching experience either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contact the WSU Fulbright Program Advisor Renee Stowell at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:rstowell@winona.edu\">rstowell@winona.edu<\/a>&nbsp;to learn more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Study Abroad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WSU offers plenty of opportunities to study abroad, whether you want to be away for a week to an entire year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Studying abroad is one of the best ways to improve your language proficiency and cultural knowledge, and we recommend it to every student in our programs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WSU has partnered with many educational institutions abroad, and you can choose from options for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/semester-abroad\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/semester-abroad\/\">semester abroad<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/faculty-led\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/study-abroad\/faculty-led\/\">faculty-led travel study programs<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contact any faculty member in the Global Studies &amp;
