The Art and Design department offers four majors and two minors.

Art Teaching

The Art Teaching major prepares graduates for Minnesota certification in art (K-12).

The Art and Design department partners with the College of Education for this major.

Graphic Design

Graphic Design is a traditional design major relying on strong fine and liberal arts foundations, combined with contemporary multi-disciplinary practices.

The I-Design major provides students with an up-to-date and adaptive design education.

Using the Design Thinking approach, the I–Design major is developed as a blended design program that is customized for the WSU environment.

Studio Art

The Studio Art major offers analysis and training in the fine arts. This training is done in the context of a broadly based Liberal Arts education.

The History of Art minor focuses on the major art trends and movements of the modern and contemporary periods in 19th- and 20th-century Europe and America. This minor also covers various critical methods of approaching and assessing art.

The Studio Art minor allows students to explore modern art-making practices. This is done through learning about painting, drawing, digital work and digital imaging (or art-based photography).
