Minnesota Background Check is included in your tuition and fees. However, any additional background study required by a clinical site must be completed at your own expense. Cost of background studies vary.

Liability Insurance

WSU policy is that all students who are performing clinical education to obtain personal liability insurance. This policy is purchased by the University on an annual basis. Approximate cost annually is $15, which is added to your WSU Student Account statement at the beginning of the fall semester.

ECC Certification

Students are required to maintain continuous Emergency Cardiac Care certification throughout the MSAT Program and as a future Athletic Training professional. Cost varies based upon certification and course offerings.

Immunization and Health

All students are required to complete a WSU Student Immunization Record prior to enrolling into courses at Winona State University. In additional to the required immunizations for WSU, students enrolled in the MSAT Program are also required to obtain the following:

  • Annual flu shot
  • Initial Mantoux Test

The cost of these immunization or additional health requirements will be billed to the student and/or personal insurance. Cost varies based upon insurance coverage.

Students are required to become a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association (GLATA) and the Minnesota Athletic Trainers' Association (MATA) upon beginning the MSAT program. This allows the student to become eligible for state, district and national scholarships and enhances professional development as a future certified athletic trainer. Membership is also necessary for the A-Track software that is currently used by the MSAT program for student tracking and assessment.

Current NATA Membership dues structure can be found on the NATA Membership website.

Admitted students to the MSAT Program will receive multiple WSU Athletic Training logoed clothing items during their clinical education. Students may also choose to purchase other clothing/items at their discretion.
