Lucas J. Calvert
The Winona State University Chapter of Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society and the Winona State University Biology Club established the Lucas J. Calvert Memorial Scholarship as a permanently endowed fund in the Winona State University Foundation. The scholarship serves to honor and celebrate the life of Lucas J. Calvert, a classmate and friend. Lucas possessed a joy for life that was contagious. He was bright, talented and an inspiration to those around him.
Lucas was born Feb. 15, 1981, in La Crosse, Wis., to Ronald Joe and Sherry Ann (McClure) Calvert. He graduated from Winona Senior High in 1999 and was a senior at Winona State University, where he was applying to medical schools. He was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona, and was a camp counselor and first aid staff member at Lake Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp (Wapo).
Lucas' life was full of joy and love for the people around him. He enjoyed camp, playing and coaching football, working on the farm, learning to be a doctor, acting like a kid, and being with his family, friends, and fiancée. Lucas had fond memories of the friends he was with in football, H.O.P.E., Tri-Beta, Pre-Med club, Youth Group, N.H.S., chess club, school, work and camp.
