The Winona State University Counselor Education programs have been accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) since October 2001. The WSU School Counseling Program is currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). NCATE was de facto consolidated into the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) on July 1, 2013.

As the gold standard in counselor preparation and training, graduates of the WSU Counselor Education program will be recognized by most state licensing and registration boards in clinical mental health and school counseling specialties.
