Design Concerns


Definitions of the different design concern categories:

Physical: Size, weight and mass properties.

Structural: Strength, stiffness, impact, and durability properites.

Environmental: In-service conditions such as exposure to temperature, humidity, UV and chemicals.

Human Engineering: Product safety, ergonomics and aesthetics.

Life Cycle: Maintenance, repairability and disposal of the product at the end of product life.
Cost: Total cost of the product including the materials, manufacturing, tooling and labor.
Requirement: a value that has to be met or exceeded by the design

Goal: a direction, either a minimum or maximum of a design concern
