Since scholarships are classified as gift aid, they don&#8217;t have to be repaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students apply for and earn scholarships based on many factors, which could include demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, minority status, talent in performing arts, athletic ability, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"first-year\">First-Year Student Scholarships <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Winona State offers many scholarships just for first-year students\u2014and you&#8217;re automatically considered for several just by submitting the admissions application.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-block accordion\">\n        <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Resident_Tuition_Scholarship\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Resident_Tuition_Scholarship\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Resident Tuition Scholarship        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p><strong>Award Amount:<\/strong> Resident Tuition Rate<\/p>\n<p>This award means that you&#8217;ll pay the Minnesota resident (in-state) tuition rate rather than the non-resident (out-of-state) tuition rate.<\/p>\n<p>You can think of it as a roughly $6,700 scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Students from reciprocity states (WI and ND) will receive the grant but are still eligible to apply for reciprocity. The committee members wish to make an investment in individuals to help them achieve their goals.<\/p>\n<p>The WSU Foundation awards over 900 scholarships each year that total more than $1.8 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Qualify:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/winona.academicworks.com\/users\/sign_in\">Complete the online applications<\/a> for one or more Foundation scholarships<\/li>\n<li>Qualifying criteria varies and may include GPA, current major, year in program, career choice, hometown, volunteer experience, and more<\/li>\n<li>Some scholarships may require an essay or other materials.
