Blackbaud's Security Incident

We want to inform you about a data security incident involving our third-party data management service provider, Blackbaud.

We care deeply about our giving community and want to be transparent about the circumstances of this situation.


What Happened

As you may be aware, Blackbaud was the subject of a ransomware attack that compromised certain Blackbaud client data, including information from universities around the globe.

The attack was discovered by the company in May 2020 and disclosed to WSU several months later.


What's Important to Know

Winona State University does not store social security numbers or any banking account information within the Blackbaud system.

Therefore, we can confirm that your social security number, credit card, and bank account information were not breached in this incident.


What Information was Involved

The data potentially breached includes your contact information, demographic information, and a history of your relationship with Winona State University Foundation, such as donation dates and amounts.
