Message from Chair Sonja Meiers
Winona State University (WSU) Department of Graduate Nursing faculty and staff welcome you to another exciting year of learning! We must acknowledge the amazing challenges that our nursing and health care communities are facing amidst our global pandemic. There has never been a time like now when the innovative and disciplined thinking of nurses with graduate education has been needed.
Our faculty and students are regularly engaged in synchronous and asynchronous learning through our D2L web classroom platform. We also use Zoom meetings to help us connect in teleconference meetings. We welcome you to consider joining us for challenging, inspiring, and relevant graduate nursing education. Select students at some points in their programs come to campus in Rochester, MN, for immersion hands-on learning experiences needed for advanced practice and nursing education. These experienced occur in the simulation setting and in the health assessment laboratory.
We received notice from the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) on June 4, 2020 that the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program and the Post-Graduate Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Programs at Winona State University were fully accredited effective October 21, 2019. The accreditation period is 10 years, which is the maximum number of years of accreditation allowed. All graduates of our DNP programs and any of our Post-Graduate Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) programs since October 2014 graduated from a program accredited by CCNE. Our MS programs are also accredited by CCNE.
WSU is very proud of the achievements of our graduate nursing programs and has officially approved a transition from our identity as a group of programs to our new Department of Graduate Nursing identity within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences We look forward to the new possibilities that being a Department brings for students and faculty.
If you are a WSU graduate nursing student, best wishes for a great academic year and thank you again for supporting excellence in scholarship at Winona State University. If you are not a graduate nursing student at WSU, please consider joining us!
