Borrowing Items During COVID-19

Print collections are currently closed to all except library staff. To get items for check out, browse OneSearch and choose "Request" or email library@winona.edu. You will be notified via email when your requests are available for pick-up. 

Items can be picked up from the front desk of the library. Per WSU policy, masks are required when entering the library building. We can mail items upon request. Please respond to the "On Hold" email with your mailing address. 

Curbside pick-up is available for community members and those who do not feel comfortable entering the library building. Request items by browsing OneSearch and choosing "Request" or email library@winona.edu. You will be notified via email when your requests are available for pick-up. 

  • Curbside service must be requested at least 24 hours in advance by responding to the hold notice received in your email.
  • Curbside pick-up is only available between the hours of 11am and 1pm.
  • Park by the loading dock doors at the back of the library and do not leave your car. If arriving on outside of a vehicle, please wear a mask.
  • Call the front desk (507.457.5149) when you arrive.
  • Have your ID or community card ready to show in order to receive your items. 

You can return items to the library through the dropbox on the side of the building or you can mail them back to the library at your own expense. Mail to:

Items returned to the library will be put in a 3-day quarantine. Your account will not reflect that the materials have been received until after this time.

Borrow & Renew

At the Front Desk of the library, you can check out books and videos, pick up interlibrary loans and reserve items, and renew books in person. You will need your WSU ID, a card from another MnPALS library or a courtesy card.

For students, external borrowers and courtesy card holders, the check out period is 91 days for books and 7 days for videos. For faculty and staff, the check out period is one semester for books and 91 days for videos.

Books may be recalled at any time after 28 days. Interlibrary loan periods are determined by the lending library. 

The Krueger Library sends due date notifications to the email address associated with your account. No paper notifications are mailed.

Everyone is responsible for returning library materials by their due dates, regardless of whether a notice was received. You may check your due dates any time by logging onto My Account at the top right corner of the Library Catalog. 

Krueger Library Items

  • Choose "renew items" from below the OneSearch search bar on the library homepage

  • Log in using your StarID and password

  • Select your name from the upper right corner of the screen

  • A pull-down menu will open. Select "My Loans" from the menu.

  • The "My Loans" page should display the items you have checked out. Select the Renew link next to the item you wish to renew.

    • You can renew more than one item by using the check boxes in front of the item - then select the Renew All link.

  •  There is no limit on renewals for WSU items, unless someone else has requested the item.

Interlibrary Loan Items

Log onto My Account, then click ILL Requests in the right-hand column. Click on the items you want to renew, then click Renew Selected ILLs.

The lending library decides whether or not to grant an interlibrary loan renewal, not the Krueger Library. If the lending library grants the renewal, the status will change for that item to Renewal – Accepted. Otherwise, the status will change to Renewal – Denied. You are responsible for returning interlibrary loan materials by the due dates. 

For students, external borrowers and courtesy card holders, after three overdue notices your library account will be blocked and a hold and charge will be placed on your university account. The charge will be either the value of the item or $75.00, whichever is greater. Library account blocks and university account holds can be removed by returning the material to the library and/or paying any charges at the WSU Warrior Hub. If material that has been paid for at the Warrior Hub is later returned to the library, refunds may be granted at the discretion of the library.

Overdue reserve materials may result in a blocked account at any time. Blocks will be removed if you return the overdue library material. Interlibrary loan account holds and charges are determined by the lending library.

For faculty and staff, if an item is overdue for 7 days, your library account may be blocked. 

With a courtesy card, you can check out items from the Krueger Library without a WSU ID and use the public computers.

Community members, alumni and retired WSU faculty and staff can obtain a card by filling out an application and presenting a valid photo ID at the circulation desk. Community members between the ages of 16-18 must fill  out an application, present a valid photo ID card that includes your birth date at the circulation desk and have a parent or legal guardian present to co-sign the application form to get a card. Those under 16 are not eligible for courtesy cards.

Patrons with library accounts from other MnPALS libraries are also not eligible for a courtesy card. Instead, use the card associated with your home library.

Current WSU students, faculty and staff are not eligible for a courtesy card. Instead, use your WSU ID.
