Dr. David Dies

This autumn, David Dies’s chamber opera, Ernest Hemingway’s Hills Like White Elephants, is being performed live on Chicago’s classical music station, WFMT-FM, by the Anaphora ensemble and will be recorded as part of their debut album. Dies was recently commissioned by seven renowned bassoonists who will perform a chamber bassoon concerto during the course of the next two years. His solo CD, agevolmente, was released in June 2011 on the Albany label, and features performances by pianist Christopher Taylor, sopranos Mimmi Fulmer and Judith Kellock, bassoonist Marc Vallon and cellist Jakub Omsky. His music has been performed on three continents, most notably in London, New York, Chicago, Lima, Peru, and Lenox, Mass. He holds a doctorate in music composition from UW-Madison and grew up in the Twin Cities.
