Prof. Jeremy Johnston
Dr. Jeremy R. Johnston is an active performer and educator of percussion in the Twin Cities, MN. As a performer, he regularly performs recitals of solo and mixed chamber ensemble music throughout Minnesota and the surrounding region. His programs regularly feature newly commissioned pieces and premiere performances. In addition to solo and chamber performances, Dr. Johnston enjoys performing in large ensembles. He served as principal percussionist in a performance of Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring with the Joffrey Ballet in 2013 and again as principal percussionist with the Minnesota Beethoven Festival 2015 Chorale.
Dr. Johnston teaches percussion at Saint Mary’s University in Winona, MN, directs the Blaine High School Percussion Ensemble, teaches percussion lessons at Rosemount High School, and teaches percussion at Maple Grove Senior High School. In addition to these teaching responsibilities, Johnston enjoys running his private studio serving percussion students of all ages and abilities in the Twin Cities, Minnesota.
In addition to performing and teaching, Dr. Johnston runs his small business, Marim-Bar repairing percussion instruments, tuning marimbas, and manufacturing replacement marimba bars. He is the primary bar manufacturer for Adventure Percussion’s practice marimbas.
Johnston holds degrees in percussion performance from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, Illinois State University, and the University of Minnesota.
