Dr. Richard Shields received his Ph.D. at University of Missouri at Rolla.


His field of study was theoretical atomic physics.


At WSU, Dr. Shields teaches the general physics class and the advanced theory classes in the physics major.


For the 95-96 school year, Dr. Shields spent a sabbatical leave teaching in Malaysia. There he taught physics and engineering classes and also helped the Malaysians develop their own engineering program. 


Dr. Shields is active as a volunteer in the local public school and was selected along with his wife Barbara as the school district "Citizen of the Year."
