Special Education Program Admission

Students must apply for both undergraduate programs and graduate programs in the Special Education department.

Undergraduate Program Admission

After you’re admitted to WSU, you’ll need to apply for admission to the Teacher Education program.

Admission to education programs can be competitive, so it’s important to put the effort into your coursework in your first semesters of college.

Graduate Program Admissions

Before you can be considered for admission into the Special Education programs, you must first apply for admission to the School of Graduate Studies at WSU.

Within the online application, you’ll select your program:

  • Choose “Academic & Behavioral Strategist GC” if you’re interested in the graduate certificate program
  • Choose “Special Education” if you’re interested in the Master of Science

Apply to the Special Education Program

Once you’ve been accepted to Graduate Studies, complete the online application for the Special Education graduate programs.

In your application, you’ll also need to submit:

  • Statement of Purpose: 1-page narrative of why you want to become a Special Education teacher
  • Resume: include your professional experiences and volunteer/community service
  • Contact information for your school administrator (only required for Academic & Behavioral Strategist graduate certificate applicants)

The College of Education Admissions Department reviews applications for a degree or certificate program. We’ll notify you in writing if you’re admitted or denied admission to the Special Education graduate program.

Check the status of your application by emailing css@winona.edu.
