Students in Special Education programs have unique opportunities and resources to enhance their experiences beyond the classroom. 

Student Clubs & Programs
Student Council for Exceptional Children

Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC) is the professional student organization for Special Education.

The club meets once a month and sponsors social, professional development, and service activities.

Kids First After School Program

Volunteers work with children at the Maplewood Townhomes Housing Authority.

Children are of diverse backgrounds, and they receive help with homework and participate in recreational activities.

Project COMPASS

Project COMPASS provides community education classes and activities for community individuals with disabilities in Winona.

Classes range from movie nights and bowling to exercise classes and crafts.

Volunteers are always welcome.

Hands-on Work Opportunities

Home & Community Options is a local agency that provides residential and respite care for individuals with disabilities. Employment and volunteer opportunities are available.

Travel Program

The Special Education Department offers a faculty-led travel program to Jamaica once a year. 

The trip includes living in a boys’ orphanage, visiting public schools, and touring agencies in Kingston.
